Wendy's vet visit.

Postby wendylove » Fri Mar 03, 2006 4:01 pm

I am not sure really where to post this...i guess here is appropriate. As many of you know Wendy has a huge cyst and had swim bladder problems. Her cyst was drained by Dr.Roberts a month ago and she has not had swim bladder problems since. She has been taking turns being her normal playful self and sitting on the bottom of the tank.
today was her follow up visit and she had more fluid drained from her cyst. I think about 16 or so cc;s of fluid. No flukes but the tank will be treated again in 5 days and then 2 weeks to be sure their are no eggs. Everyone has weird poop so the tank will be treated with flagyl. The Dr allowed me to take pictures of the procedures today and she took some as well. Can i post them or do i need her permission?

Under water where thoughts can breathe Easily...
Wow... that's a lot of fluid!
I don't know. I can't see why she'd have a problem with it but it might not hurt to check in with her office and make sure.

I sent her an e-mail. I really do not think she would mind. I took about 15 pictures of the procedure. What a fabulous doctor. Down to earth and smart. We have decided not to do surgery. The cyst will be drained as needed. And probably i will do it if it looks like a life long/ chronic situation. I guess if i can start iv's and give shots all day long i can handle it.

Under water where thoughts can breathe Easily...
Sounds interesting. Is Wendy back in the tank now? Is she swimming better? It will be great if you can post the pictures.

DR. Roberts has graciously given permission to post the pictures. Yea!! And i quote from her e-mail " I really think since there isn't much info out there, it is great to share any knowledge we have!!"
Do you guys want to see them all or select a few?

Under water where thoughts can breathe Easily...
Wendy willingly went into the net. She is a strange fish. I think she views it as a safe place to be as she spent most of her day in it when she had her buoyancy problems.
Here she is in her bucket at the vets office waiting for the Dr.

In Tupperware being anesthetized with ms 2222.

She was pretty feisty this time around and took awhile to settle down. She required two doses.

Dr. Roberts

She is finally slowing down

A little bleeding from the gill scrape.

Dr. Roberts aspirating the fluid from the cyst. The cyst basically occupies her whole right side. It is much smaller from her first visit and she is symmetrical however over 16 cc's of fluid was removed. In the initial syringe it was darker in colour. No protein was seen
Interesting. so the cyst was squishing the swim bladder.
