Some pics
Lumpy had a difficult first year with us. She was one of the fish who brought me online looking for help after we'd set up a 20 gallon garage sale tank in May 2003, my daughter stocked it... then they all grew up and we were in deep doo doo by December 2003 and I came online looking for info. This pic was in January 2004, in the new 55 gallon tank.
Wow Betty, Those are some nice shots of your goldies. Lumpy was one impressive fish, I'm sure she will be greatly missed

Well, it's done and I got some decent pics even tho (of course) the camera batteries are getting lame in their old age. I didn't see any obvious cause of death. Swim bladder had two lobes and both looked inflated to me. I'm pooped, so I'll post them tomorrow.

I'm sad, but I don't get why I'm not more upset over it. Perhaps cuz it happened fast and now I don't have to worry about putting Lumpy thru the the piercing or tagging to try and give her decent quality of life, so there's some relief there too. She had a good last two years.

Oh dear. I remember meeting DataGuru and Lumpy in December 2003. It is really sad to hear the gentle giant goldfish is gone. Sounds like it was quite peaceful/

Yep. Of all the boards I tried, you guys really hung in there and helped while I got up to speed. Have you heard anything from Katt?

This is crackrocksteady from over on the BAF forums.
My condolences to the departure of your fish, I know how much goldies can mean to someone.
I figured you'd be more likely to read my reply here than over on the BAF boards.
I really would've liked to have seen the results of the piercing project, though..

Thanks.
I was at Walmart today and they had at least 3 tanks of sick goldies. Sitting on the bottom with their fins clamped. Looked like ich to me. I bugged two different employees about it, but I don't know if they ever did anything about it. I may try and call their store manager tomorrow. If they're going to sell fish, they need to take care of them darnit.

The piercing would have been interesting for sure.

I'd love to see pics of your goldies.

Betty, keep lumpy separete to reduce costia numbers. Forget antibodies - just keep him separete and in 100% clean water. If you want to keep going down the harness route, try a mixture of fy separators in the existing tank water and harnesses as righting their gyroscope is a good thing. But do cut out fin areas for pecs espesh and also crop off the area where your fishie poos as this will prevent infection and chafing. When your buoyancy is gone, Betty, it is more or less gone... You have done all you can, but I think you'll be handfeeding for a bit and helping Lumpy adapt - and he so will. If you need help with feeding or building him an apartment or any contraptions, please do get in touch and I will send you anything that may help - you are soooo helpful to others, it would be a pleasure to be able to help you.
