Re: Calcium and OsmoregulationFrom Fish Pathology, by Ronald J. Roberts, 2001
wolf 1963 in fish blood, in mg/100ml cl 424 na 358 K 20.1 ca 12.5 phosphorus 9.3 mg 2.3 sulfate .8
Re: Calcium and Osmoregulationok. let's see if I can calculate the amounts to add to the water to match the blood concentrations.
The above mg/100ml convert to 42.4 mg/l Cl 35.8 mg/l Na 2 mg/l K 1.3 mg/l Ca 0.9 mg/l P 0.2 mg/l Mg 0.1 mg/l SO4 one gram of sodium Chloride (NaCl) has 607mg Cl and 393 mg Na Calcium Chloride (CaCl2 2H2O) has 311 mg Ca and 550mg Cl Mag sulfate (MGSO4 7H2O) has 99mg Mg and 390mg SO4 Potassiun chloride (KCl) 524mg K and 476mg Cl so adding a gram of each to 1 liter of water would result in the ppm above sodium Chloride (NaCl) has 607mg/l Cl and 393 mg/l Na Calcium Chloride (CaCl2 2H2O) has 311 mg/l Ca and 550mg/l Cl Mag sulfate (MGSO4 7H2O) has 99mg/l Mg and 390mg/l SO4 Potassiun chloride (KCl) 524mg/l K and 476mg/l Cl I want it in gallons and 1 gallon of water is 3.78541178 liters so adding a gram of each to 1 gallon of water would result in sodium Chloride (NaCl) has 160mg/l Cl and 104 mg/l Na Calcium Chloride (CaCl2 2H2O) has 82 mg/l Ca and 145mg/l Cl Mag sulfate (MGSO4 7H2O) has 26mg/l Mg and 103mg SO4 Potassiun chloride (KCl) 139mg K and 126mg Cl So if I want to match the blood levels, I'd need to add per gallon for Na, I'd need to add 34% of that amount (345mg NaCl) for Ca, I'd need to add 49% of that amount (488mg CaCl) for Mg, I'd need to add 93% of that amount (933mg MgSO4) for K, I'd need to add 28% of that amount (282mg KCl) That would result in 161.6ppm Cl (desired 42.4ppm) 35.8ppm Na (desired 35.8ppm) 40.1ppm Ca (desired 40.1ppm) 24.3ppm Mg (desired 24.3ppm) 39.1ppm K (desired 39.1ppm) 96.1ppm SO4 (desired 0.1ppm) that amount of calcium and magnesium should raise GH by 100ppm each. Anyone care to double check my calculations?
Re: Calcium and OsmoregulationSo if that is correct, given I added 1 tsp salt per gallon and about 1.3 grams of calcium chloride per gallon
cl 993.5ppm na 519.6ppm ca 108.7ppm
