I doubt anyone will be interested, but I put two red eyed male bettas up on aquabid today.

Cool! So the first guy listed was a marble color to start and then he went all white? I thought it was supposed to work the other way. Going from solid white to marble but what do I know? :lol Looks like his eye color is dark in the first picture.

I am really toying with getting one of these guys....

Yes he was marble, and then he turned cellophane. I changed the older top photo, because I wanted all of the photos of the fish in the auction to accurately represent the fish today. Since no has bid on him yet, I thought it would be more fair to to have all pictures of him taken this week. I removed the auction for the other one.

I do want to rehome the albino male, and some other bettas that I do not plan to take to show. Honestly, I am just very nervous about shipping fish, and I am not certain if they will remain white or maybe gain color.

I was given personal instruction on how to ship bettas by a guy who has been shipping bettas for over 40 years, and I have some insulated boxes and bags. I have concerns about shipping this time of year because if it is 90 degrees outside, and if there is a mistake made with too little cooling packs....the temperature inside the box could reach 120 degrees! On the other hand, if there are too many cooling packs, the temperature could get dangerously low. Keeping the temperature safe inside the shipping box is my main concern with shipping.

edited to add...

I recently was informed that bettas don't require cooling packs if the fish is picked up by the recipient from the post office. Apparently, the riskiest time is when they are in the back of a mail truck with no temperature control on the way to be delivered.

I understand, I was worried sick when I had the two that I ordered from Betty Splendens shipped to me and they were coming from the same state that I lived in :lol

I guess I will just have to be happy with your updates and photos :greensmile

I know it will be safe to ship when the temperatures average in the 70's during the day and mild at night. I was told about some bettas that were lost in the mail for 3 weeks on their way home from a show, and they eventually got to their destination alive. Bettas are tough fish! :lol

Here is the only halfsun from this spawn. He has a nice even zig zag on all fins. So far, all of the siblings are are halfmoon, superdelta, or delta tail with smooth edges on fins.

I really wonder if I will continue getting bettas from spawns that have eyes like this. So far, they have shown up in 2 generations.

I suspect I have many years of work to develop this red eyed albino line. :FingersCrossed I have been told it is impossible to create an albino betta that has good vision, but I don't know. ;)

Now, one of my favorite fish from this spawn is a dad!

Image

He was such a good fishy dad, and the pair has practically no fin damage. He took care of his fry until they were free swimming.

I might pair these bettas together soon. Although the pictures don't show it, their heads are bright yellow.

Here are some of the girls.
