| Pros: |
Easy and basic filter |
| Cons: |
The filter allows for no adjustment. And using only one filterpad means that the user cannot work and adjust what kind of media he/she wants to use. It can easily get clogged up. Because the whole filtration unit has to be changed at once, it can cause a blimp on the cycle. |
Here is the filter. It came with the 10 gallon and I have used it for 5 years now:

Here is the filter taken apart and cleaned.
Cleaning is fairly simple. One just has to take the filter apart, rinse and clean all parts (in discarded tankwater). It is important to carefully clean inside the impeller housing as sometimes the impeller does not work if too much algae or dirt gets trapped in there. The filter pad should be rinsed. It comes with carbon inside it. To avoid changing the pad too often, I sometimes cut a hole in it and empty out the carbon (messy job),
The filter pad is very thin and fits sideways into the casing.
Filter is back again on the tank. Just have to remember to add some water to it before starting it up again.
Final Thoughts:
I don't think I would recommend this filter. If people want to buy a small filter I would suggest the Aquaclear 20 instead as it is far more versatile. But I have liked the filter.
